Former CIA Director of Counterintelligence James Jesus Angleton, also known as the “Spy Poet,” described the intelligence game as a “Desert of Mirrors,” a phrase borrowed from a poem by T.S. Eliot called Gerontion (the title is Greek for “little old man,” and the poem is an internal monologue connecting the opinions and impressions of an elderly man describing post-World War I Europe through the eyes of a man who lived most of his life in the 19th century). In the world of intelligence, in the search for truth, it is difficult to distinguish between reality and its reflection, an illusion if you will, as if one were in a “Hall of Mirrors”.

I don’t get all the negativity in the reviews, yes, its pacing isn’t quite Bourne territory, but it is tense, wonderfully acted and grabs your attention. I haven’t seen the French original before so forgive me if I don’t give a comparison but it would be a shame if there was a negative comparison it would detract from the enjoyment of it. Maybe the concerns about the pacing come from binge culture, it is probably slow if you want to watch a few episodes in one sitting but honestly I don’t see any problem with it.
