Tale
In the winter of 1862, during the Civil War, the U.S. Army sent a company of volunteers to patrol the uncharted western territories. Minervini had the set built in Montana and then had the cast live in it for two months. The dialogue and thoughts expressed are those of the actors, who made them up while living in the wilderness and imagining they were soldiers in the Civil War. The Damned is a completely boring film. It feels like someone shot a home video using a phone or an old camcorder. While the scenery is beautiful, the soldiers just walk around doing nothing. The changing seasons and snowfall add little to the experience. Overall, it’s a total waste of time. In a big city, you’re better off watching a traffic jam from your window – much more entertaining than this film. I thought the directors and filmmakers were famous, but I’ve never heard of them. It seems that the most famous filmmakers make films for a cross-cultural audience, not for average people like me.
